It’s not your fault. Let’s act fast.
Scammers are professionals, and they fool smart people every day. The first hour matters most.
Do this first, whatever happened
- Stop talking to the scammer. Don’t reply, and don’t send anything more.
- Pick what happened below and do its first step now. It tells you who to contact first, like your bank, card company, gift card company, payment app, money transfer company, or phone company.
- Use a number you already have: on your card, receipt, or bill, or in the company’s own app. Never search online for it.
Watch for a second scam. Anyone who contacts you offering to get your money back for a fee, a code, your bank details, or access to your phone or computer is a scammer, even if they say they’re the FBI, the FTC, a lawyer, or us. Don’t search online for a company’s phone number either. Scammers post fake ones.
